"Becoming a volunteer for HPCCR was a no-brainer for me. I was the primary caregiver for my friend when Hospice came on board; their guidance, care, love, compassion and presence helped us along her journey.
In 2008 I became a volunteer. I have had the opportunity to experience some of the many aspects of Hospice care; patient/family visits, IDG team participant, Tuck-In team and Chameleon’s Journey.
You may wonder what is “Tuck-In” - briefly, we call all of our patients/families under home care every Thursday morning . The purpose is to be sure they have all the medications and supplies needed to get through the weekend.. and we tuck them in!. (Our nurses are fabulous and usually nothing is needed). Every now and then they do need something and we are able to help get what they need. We are also one more member of the care team providing a friendly voice and maybe a good laugh and an ear to listen. Sometimes we are the only visitor a caregiver or patient might get that day!
There are no ‘favorites’ but every interaction - by phone or in person - reinforces the teamwork which provides our patients with exceptional care."
